Camino Le Puy 2011
In 2011 I completed my third pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela having previously walked the Camino Frances in 2007 and the Via de la Plata in 2008. This time I started in Le Puy-en-Velay, France on April 26 and arrived in Santiago on June 18, having walked about 1500km in 54 days.

SETTING THE SCENE......
I consider walking my first Camino in 2007 to be one of the best things that I have done in my life. It wasn't long after my return to Canada that I started to think about an encore. The die was cast when my wife suggested that I use the walk as a fundraiser for Rotary International (we are both Rotarians). And so was born "The Walk to Beat Polio", a project that would ultimately raise in excess of $54 thousand to assist in the eradication of polio from the world. The 2008 pilgrimage from Sevilla to Santiago de Compostela took 35 days and covered 1007 km. Inclement weather made this undertaking one of the most challenging of my life.
I choose not to walk in 2009 because of family committments nor in the 2010 "holy year", when the number of pilgrims that arrived in Santiago de Compostela swelled to 260,000, placing a severe burden on the Camino infrastructure. By 2011, I was getting itchy feet and looking forward to my longest walk yet, the 1500 km from Le Puy-en-Velay, France, to Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
